Reducing the usage of charcoal nowadays will never impact this factory production. This is the largest charcoal factory still in operation located at Kuala Sepetang.
Very amazing brick kiln, seems like a giant Smurf House with a tiny front door.
Upon arrival, you will sense an overpowering smoky smell and a dry fuming heat alerting you that you're entering into a flammable zone.
It's a very amazing site and managed to have a full insight of the charcoal processes with explanation from a guide, and comprehended that charcoal process is a very lengthy and uneasy journey.

Don't underestimate this local zoo, its standard is more impressive than other international rank zoo like Singapore Night Safari. At least the entrace is much cheaper compared to SG.

FOOD ~ YUM YUM

1. Restaurant Yat Sun (日新茶室)

This is a typical hailam kopitiam located in the main street of Taiping. The shop has no fancy decoration, it's simply a very traditional kopitiam with some old fashioned tables and chairs set up. Yet, this is exactly the sort of climate we're searching.
It caters all races' preference & the menu is having wide range of local foods and Hainanese styled delicacies.
Although foods served here have no flashy colours and they're quite plain, the taste will definitely satisfy your tastebud with so original home cooked flavours.
Try the chicken chop, fried Hainanese noodles, fried rice, toast and half boil eggs.
None of the above will disappoint you. The chicken chop is well marinated. As it's not very thick in texture, and you find the outer layer is super crispy and coated meat still remains very juicy and tender.

Address:-
Yut Sun Restaurant
78 & 80, Jalan Pasar,
34000 Taiping,
Perak, Malaysia
Tel No : +605-808 3250
Opens from 8am until 7pm daily. Closed on Sundays.

2. Goreng Pisang (PSL)

This isn't a normal Goreng Pisang stall that you see at the roadside. They're having their own shop specializing in fried stuffs. GORENG PISANG is their highlight.
They're very particular about the banana used for their frying as they only select certain kind for their business.
This could be the best goreng pisang that I ever had. The skin is with finest crunchiness, and the banana coated inside started melting and produces a banana fragrance rumbling in your mouth. It's so amazing.

Location : 85 Jalan Pasar
Business hour : 12pm - 8pm daily
Highlight : Goreng Pisang

3. Cendol Bismillah  (since 1993)

In a hot sunny day, have a bowl of refreshing cendol to keep you hydrated and energetic ! Try this bismillah cendol. There're 2 types, with & without nuts.
Strong in coconut milk taste and I do like its mild sweetness (not really sweet) and the underneath beans. Try their pasembur too for your tea time snack.

Pasembur

Location : 233 Jalan Barack
Business Hour : 8am - 6pm
Price : RM 1.40 - RM 2.00

4. Restaurant Central

Start up you day with a superb breakfast in this Restaurant Central. It's a typical Chinese Kopitiam but the most eye catching is the in house decoration.
It's not a fancy nor urban style, but every facet of wall is hung with massive Chinese Painting Arts.
Some paintings are related to Chinese godly characters and warriors. The ambience is surrounded with righteousness.
Try the nasi lemak ( with sambal prawn), home made curry puff, and the soup noodles.
Do not expect it's a cafe standard, but it's more alike small town delight.

Location : 114 & 116 Jalan Berek, Taiping
Business hours : 7am - 2pm

5. Larut Matang Hawker Centre Taiping

Looking for local food? Supper? Street food? Hawker food? Yes. This is the place will fulfill all your craves.
All sort of local foods will make you indecisive to choose the most desired one.
My highlight is the chee cheong fun, ready packed mini nasi lemak, wan ton noodles, and pao & dim sum. For PAO, I prefer red bean paste and other non-meat filing. As the meat pao has fatty bits. Which I don't really take fatty bits.

Location: Jalan Panggung Wayang
Biz hour : 6pm - 11pm
Highlight: Chee Cheong Fun, Nasi Lemak Bungkus

6. Prima Coffee Shop night hawker

There is another night hawker near to the siang malam tower too. We didn't have chance to try this as we already filled up out stomach at siang malam.
But I remembered trying this in my last trip. If not mistaken, the otak-otak, grilled fish and wan ton noodles were great.
Do let me know once you've tried this.

Location : 23 Jalan Kota, Taiping
Biz Hour: 6pm - 11pm

7. Ipoh Bakery

If you're the bakery lover, you shouldn't miss this shop. This is an old bakery shop and has been running the business for few decades.
They've renovated & refurbished the shop with morden colour red & white. You would probably think that this is new shop, but it was established way back in 1918 and the one you're looking now is their brand new look.
Try their signature cheese bun. The bun is soft with roasted cheese topping.
I do like their almond tart too. Nice!

Location : 144 - 146, Jalan Taming Sari.
Business hours : 8am - 7pm
Highlight: Cheese Bun, Almond Tart

8. Lian Thong coffee shop

Another of the local breakfast choice is this Lian Thong kopitiam. It's a hailam + mamak style. This kopitiam is one of the oldest restaurant in Taiping, and it serves local most favourite breakfast choice.
Unfortunately, during my visit, it was close. The food highlights are mostly the stir fired noodlea. Most tempting ones are :-
TOM YAM CIN TAN MEE
HAI LAM WAN TON MEE
WAT TAN HO ( FRIED KUEY TEOW WITH GRAVY)
FRIED JAWA MEE
BOMB MEE
TOAST
HALF BOIL EGGS
BEVERAGES

Location : No. 5 Jalan Kota, Taiping
Business Hours: 8am - 2pm ( Closed on Sunday)
Highlight: Bomb Mee.

9. Cafe ( The best of old master) Nanyang Coffee

Passing through a very uniquely designed coffee shop. Believed it was a newly opened coffee house. Initially we thought it was a temple, but after reading the signage in detail, it was actually a coffee house serving local coffee and other beverages.
It looks relatively archaic in the building structure but it has been obviously refurbished with new materials.
Out visit was at night, so couldn't take any coffee due to afraid of insomnia haha.
Will try out next time.

Location: 36a, Jalan Kota
Biz Hour: 12pm - 12am

10. Nasi Lemak near to Bukit Larut

Before heading up to Bukit Larut (Maxwell Hill), do have breakfast at the Malay Stall near to the ticketing counter.
Will suggest you to come early and filled up your stomach with a plate of hot nasi lemak telur, and some hot beverages, as well as roti bakar too as it's not easy to take any breakfast at uphill.
Surprisingly the nasi lemak is superb here. Fragrant coconut rice topped with a sunny side up with dilute york, and the savoury sambal really matches the rice too.

Location: Bukit Larut ( near to the hill entrace)
Cost: RM 3.00 - RM 5.00
