Teluk Rhu Resort (德古鲁民宿)- This is not just a place to stay — it’s a reminder.

 Teluk Rhu Resort (德古鲁民宿)

Through a chance scroll on the internet, I stumbled upon a name that was almost unfamiliar to me — a little fishing village resort tucked away beyond the more famous Sekinchan, nestled quietly in Teluk Rhu.

Hidden within the Sabak Bernam district, it wasn’t something you’d find in a typical travel search. There was no online booking, so I sent a text to the owner. To my surprise, Mr. Lim replied within seconds, patiently sharing every detail about his place. The itinerary sounded captivating — a blend of activities and full-board meals that spoke of simple joys.

Without hesitation, I booked on the spot.
When we arrived, the modest charm of the fishing village immediately caught my heart. The Teluk Rhu Resort sits right within this small, slow-paced community, embraced by the smell of the sea and the easy smiles of its people. We were welcomed warmly by Ah Lim and his family, who made us feel less like guests and more like long-awaited friends.

This place was built on the philosophy of pausing life, breathing deeply, and letting the sea wind carry away the weight you didn’t even realise you were holding.

With almost no pollution and hardly any crowds, this homestay felt calmer than anything I’d experienced in Kuala Selangor or Sekinchan. It’s not just a stay — it’s a space that wraps you in a sense of stillness. The amenities were simple yet complete:

• Main block – reception and clean, air-conditioned guest rooms with private bathrooms.
• Common lounge – open-air seating shaded by straw umbrellas, designed with old Chinese charm.
• Children’s corner – filled with toys and games.
• Long dining table – perfect for shared meals.
• Main stage – with a karaoke system for lively nights.
• Boardwalk – winding through the mangroves.
• Kitchen – where the magic of fresh seafood happens.
• Game corner – with board games, table tennis, and free-flow Milo and tea.

Here, you never find yourself glued to a screen. The activities weave together the best of the village spirit:

• Dressing up in traditional Chinese costumes for photographs.
• Cruising the sea while digging for lala clams.
• Strolling the grounds to capture Instagram-worthy shots.
• Swaying gently on the boardwalk swing.
• Cycling through the village lanes.
• Playing table tennis, snooker, slides, or board games.
• Singing your heart out at karaoke.

Special Moon Observatory Deck

Perched atop the main building, the Moon Observatory Deck feels like stepping into a dream. At its heart, a giant glowing moon casts a soft, enchanting light, as if the rooftop has slipped into a fairy tale.

No matter how you pose before it—whether as a mischievous werewolf, a gentle moon rabbit, or just a quiet silhouette—your shadow becomes part of its story.

Here, the air shimmers with magic. The moon looms close enough to touch, yet drifts far enough to keep her mysteries. She smiles down quietly, cradling countless folktales and secrets, waiting for you to uncover them. Beneath the star-lit sky, lean in, close your eyes, and whisper your secret to the moon… who knows what spell she might weave for you?

Meals were a celebration of the sea — each one prepared with freshness that could only come from waters just a stone’s throw away:
• Lunch – seafood porridge in a rich, comforting broth.
• Tea time – golden prawn fritters, each bite generous with fresh prawns.
• Dinner – a hearty steamboat buffet with endless seafood.
• Breakfast – stir-fried seafood noodles with eggs.
• Final lunch – a grand seafood feast to remember.

All-Day Milo & Tea
Enjoy unlimited Milo and tea, available all day throughout your stay. Whenever the mood for tea time strikes, a warm cup is always waiting for you.

We later found out we were among their very first guests — the homestay had only been open for three days. It felt special, almost like we were part of the resort’s first chapter.

Ah Lim’s hospitality was unmatched; he personally walked us through every corner, every story, every purpose behind what he built.

And there is a purpose.

Teluk Rhu is the smallest fishing village in Sabak Bernam — home to barely 40 people in 19 houses. Most of the young have left; only the elderly remain, living out their days by the tides, relying on daily catches to sustain themselves. Without change, the village risks fading away into silence.
Ah Lim saw this reality, and instead of letting it happen, he chose to create something — a reason for people to visit, to stay, to spend. The resort doesn’t just offer guests a retreat; it offers villagers a livelihood. From supplying seafood to working at the resort, the locals now have a new way to keep their home alive.
Ah Lim took just three months to turn a quiet, sleeping village into a lively resort. This remarkable change was made possible through the strong support and hard work of the local villagers. Achieving such a transformation in only three months is nothing short of impressive—and almost unbelievable in its speed!

This is not just a place to stay — it’s a reminder.

A reminder that life can be simple, slow, and deeply fulfilling. Here, surrounded by the mother river, the salty breeze, and the richness of the sea, you’re stripped of distractions. You begin to remember what truly matters such as shared meals, laughter, quiet sunsets, and the rhythm of waves at night.

Teluk Rhu has no luxury to flaunt, yet it offers something far rarer -"Authenticity". And sometimes, when you’ve been chasing more, the happiest thing you can do is stop… and go back to the basics.
